Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous entertaining indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a character that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a one button to leap. Throughout numerous challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a market to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions carefully, as a mistake requires starting over. Leap on air pockets to launch yourself upward, cross disappearing platforms, and touch switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase more difficult game content where gameplay gets crazy.
Visually, the demo features neon environments and catchy music score. The simple graphics of morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name similar titles where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on Steam in the fall.
