Ex- NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Attempted Murder Trial
Ex- NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge related to a shooting that took place in May, with his counsel submitting a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the NFL, had relinquished transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was detained after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has earlier submitted a documented innocent response to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail session, Eiglarsh said.
According to his detention document, Brown is charged of taking a firearm from a security guard after a celebrity boxing bout in May and firing two rounds at a individual he had clashed with previously. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that one shot grazed his throat.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was obliged to take were exclusively in self-protection against the reported victim’s violent behavior. Brown was targeted that time and behaved within his legal entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not promptly apprehended because initially police did not recognize Nantambu as a target. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a full account about the event to officers and named Brown as the perpetrator, the report states.
From his social media updates, Brown had been staying in Dubai for several months. In a update after the altercation, Brown said he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by several persons who tried to steal my possessions and bring physical damage to me.”
A level two attempted murder allegation in Florida bears a maximum 15-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has dealt with numerous court problems over the period. He before had been alleged of assault of a vehicle employee, multiple abuse accusations, neglect to pay child support and further occurrences.
During a 2021 contest with his team against the opponents, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and handwear and left the arena, leading to his termination by the team and virtually halting his professional career.
Brown, who spent 12 years in the National Football League, was an top-tier wide receiver who passed the bulk of his tenure with the Steelers. During his time, Brown had over 900 catches for above twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the 28th highest of all time. He was a multiple-time all-star pick.
